Adult hippocampal neurogenesis (APN) is abundant in neurologically healthy subjects and drops sharply in patients with Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting impaired APN as a potentially relevant mechanism underlying memory deficits in AD that might be amenable to novel therapeutic strategies.
